CLIFTON FORGE — The Clifton Forge Public Library’s Brown Bag Book Club will meet on Thursday, Nov. 21. The group will discuss “Thunder Dog:
The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog and the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero.”
A New York Times bestseller written by Michael Hingson with Susy Flory, “Thunder Dog” recounts the chilling story of how the author and Roselle, his guide dog, worked together to safely descend 78 floors and 1,463 steps, while simultaneously helping others to remain calm.
“But the authors go beyond that,” Kirkus Review writes, “offering both an illuminating look at the realities blind people face every day and the astounding capabilities of seeing-eye dogs. Seamlessly weaving the narrative between the extraordinary exodus from the burning towers and
Hingson’s fascinating life is a savvy literary device that only enriches the tale.”
Kirkus Review concludes that “Thunder Dog” is “a tragic, inspirational and enlightening memoir.”
The Brown Bag Book Club meets from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., in the library’s Michael Armstrong Community Room.
New members are always welcome.
Participants are encouraged to bring a friend and to bring a lunch.  Dessert will be provided.
