LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany High School boys tennis team delivered another dominant performance Friday afternoon, sweeping Waynesboro 5-0 at home in the Region Quarterfinals. The victory keeps the Cougars undefeated at 14-0 — and now, they are just one win away from punching their ticket to the VHSL State Tournament.

Alleghany will host Spotswood on Monday in a high-stakes Region Semifinal. The winner will not only advance to the regional championship match but will also secure a coveted spot in the state tournament — a goal the Cougars have had their sights on all season.

Head Coach Seth Davis praised his team’s resilience, especially in the tighter matches that didn’t show in the final score.

“I’m proud of the effort of our players,” Davis said. “A lot of the individual matches were close, so the final score was a little deceiving. My mom always says to keep swinging away — and they did.”

The Cougars showed grit and composure in every match, staying focused under pressure and executing in big moments. With strong singles performances and reliable doubles play, Alleghany shut the door on Waynesboro early, securing the five points needed to advance.

Now, with the state tournament within reach, the Cougars are preparing for their biggest match of the season. Monday’s semifinal could be a defining moment for this talented, undefeated squad.

Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Cougars as they fight for a spot in the state tournament and aim to keep their perfect season alive.
