LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Varsity Cougars delivered a storybook ending on Senior Night, taking down Floyd County 4-1 . It was a night filled with emotion, energy, and excellence as the Cougars honored their seniors with a performance to remember. From the first pitch to the final out, the Cougars looked locked in and determined to make their seniors proud. Junior pitcher Emma Skidmore stole the spotlight, earning the win in spectacular fashion. Tossing a complete game gem, Skidmore allowed just three hits and one earned run across seven innings, while striking out four and walking three. She faced 27 batters and kept Floyd County off balance all night, commanding the game with 89 pitches — 52 of them for strikes. On a night meant to celebrate her class, Skidmore delivered a true senior moment.
The Cougars wasted no time putting pressure on Floyd County’s defense. In the second inning, catcher Bri Terrell sparked the offense with a clutch RBI single to open the scoring. An inning later, third baseman Paige Webb delivered in a big way, ripping a single that plated two more runs and pushed the Cougars to a 3-0 lead — a cushion they’d never relinquish.
Alleghany’s bats came alive, racking up 11 hits. Bryce Leitch and Laken Cantrell each went 2-for-4, setting the tone from the top of the lineup and keeping the pressure on. Leitch added a double to her tally, leading the team in total bases. Webb, Kaylee Nicely, Addison Morris, Kelsey Nicely, Bri Hicks, Terrell, and Tyra Rose all contributed a hit, highlighting the depth and discipline of this powerful Cougar lineup. Defensively, the Cougars were flawless. Not a single error marred the scorecard, and first baseman Addison Morris was a rock, recording a team-high eight putouts with confidence and composure.
The ladies will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Wilson Memorial.
