Michaels Pizza to sponsor blood drive at First Christian Church

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – In honor of Michael’s sister, Sherry, who is being treated for kidney failure Michaels Pizza will be sponsoring the American Red Cross Blood Drive being held on Tuesday, May 13. The blood drive will take place at First Christian Church Family Life Center from 12:00 to 6:00.

Sherry served as a seaman apprentice on the U.S.S. Hunley from 1986-1988. She received an Honorable Discharge (medical) in 1989.

Her naval training took place at the Navy Reserve Center in Orlando, Florida. Her ship was off the coast of Scotland and Ireland in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Sherry was diagnosed with kidney failure four years ago and was waiting on the kidney transplant list but was removed recently die to major complications. She has been at the VA rehab center – Davis and McDaniel Veterans Care Center in Salem – 4550 Shenandoah Ave. NW, Roanoke, Va. 24017.

Upon being released Sherry will be living with her brother, Michael Keyser and sister-in-law Bonnie.
