COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – When the Cougars Varsity baseball team hit the field Tuesday, it wasn’t just a game — it was a statement. Led by an unstoppable Tyler Jackson, the Cougars crushed the Radford Varsity Bobcats 10-0 in a dominant performance that had the crowd buzzing and the Bobcats in full retreat.
Jackson was an absolute beast in this one. He went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, with two doubles, three RBIs, and a swagger that left Radford wondering what hit them. He came up huge in the second inning with a double that brought in a run and then doubled down in the fifth, helping the Cougars extend their lead and bury the Bobcats for good.
But it wasn’t just Jackson doing the damage. The Cougars’ offense was a well-oiled machine all night long. Tucker Phillips and Zeke Saville set the tone in the first inning, each scoring a run to give Alleghany the early lead. By the third inning, the Cougars were in full throttle, dropping five runs on six hits, completely dismantling Radford’s defense. Landon Arritt and Jalen Raether each knocked in a run, and Trey Cook came through with a two-RBI double that all but sealed the deal.
And while the Cougars were putting on a hitting clinic, their defense was just as flawless. Not a single error. The Cougars were locked in, and Rilee Webb was at the heart of it all, making eight plays and showing exactly why the Bobcats were never going to get anything going.
Then there was Tyler Jackson on the mound. The man was untouchable. Over five innings, he surrendered just three hits and ZERO runs, striking out eight and showing Radford exactly why this team is a force to be reckoned with. Every inning was a masterclass in pitching. Radford’s batters couldn’t find their rhythm — Jackson had them on lock, making them look foolish with his dominant fastball and pinpoint accuracy.
The Cougars weren’t just scoring runs — they were sending a message. Trey Cook went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Jalen Raether added two hits and kept the pressure on with two stolen bases. This team is clicking on all cylinders, and if you’re facing the Cougars, you’d better come prepared for a fight.
Radford? They were simply outgunned. Micah Ray, Mason Murphy, and Parker Billings each managed one hit, but they never had a chance to make any noise. Jackson Johnson took the loss for Radford, getting roughed up for eight runs (six earned) in just over two innings. By the time the final out was recorded, Radford was left in the dust, wondering what just happened.
