ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA. (VR) – The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the continued efforts of the Inmate Work Crew, who have been actively working to beautify the Alleghany Highlands. Over the past few days, this dedicated team has successfully removed several tons of trash, including discarded couches, mattresses, appliances, and over 100 tires from the wilderness.

“We are incredibly proud of the commitment and hard work demonstrated by our Inmate Work Crew,” said Sheriff Kyle Moore. “Their efforts not only help to keep our community clean but also serve as a reminder of the importance of respecting our environment.”

As part of the Sheriff’s Office ongoing initiative to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of Alleghany County, the Inmate Work Crew has been focusing on areas that have been heavily impacted by illegal dumping. This cleanup effort underscores the community’s collective responsibility to preserve our natural landscapes and maintain public spaces.

Sheriff Kyle Moore would like to remind all residents that it is illegal to dump trash in wilderness areas and that those caught doing so may face significant fines and jail time. “We encourage everyone to be vigilant and report any instances of littering or illegal dumping,” he added. “Together, we can make a difference.”

If you witness anyone littering or dumping trash, please do not hesitate to report it by calling the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office at 540-965-1770.

Your vigilance is crucial in our ongoing mission to keep Alleghany County clean and beautiful for all to enjoy.
