COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Covington Middle School’s baseball team delivered a powerful all-around performance on Thursday afternoon, cruising to a 29-3 victory over John P. Fishwick Middle School.
Covington set the tone early with an explosive 17-run in the first inning, capitalizing on a combination of timely hits, patient at-bats, and defensive miscues by the Chargers. The momentum continued through the next two frames, with Covington adding six runs in both the second and third innings to seal the win.
The offense was led by a consistent team effort, with multiple players recording hits and driving in runs. Covington totaled 15 hits and drew 16 walks in the game, while also showing speed and awareness on the bases with nine stolen bases. On the mound, Covington’s starting pitcher worked a perfect first inning, striking out two and keeping the Chargers off balance. A reliever followed with another shutout inning, adding two more strikeouts and maintaining the team’s control of the game. Defensively, Covington played clean baseball, committing no errors and making solid plays throughout. The infield stayed sharp, and the team’s communication and field awareness helped limit any scoring opportunities for the Chargers.
Fishwick managed to push across three runs, with a few productive at-bats and several walks drawn, but was ultimately overmatched by Covington’s high-energy performance on both sides of the ball.
