PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Junior Varsity Cougars are officially on a roll. Coming off a recent win, the Cougars made it two in a row with a dominant 13-2 victory over Patrick County on Wednesday evening, showing off sharp pitching, clutch hitting, and flawless defense in a complete team effort.
From the jump, Alleghany meant business. Joel Bradshaw brought home the game’s first run with a groundout, followed by Talyn Elliott getting hit by a pitch to drive in another. Just like that, it was 2-0—and the Cougars never looked back.
An error by Patrick County in the third gave Alleghany a 3-0 edge, but the sixth inning is where the game blew wide open. With disciplined at-bats and smart base running, the Cougars hung five more runs on the scoreboard. Ben Skidmore and Bradshaw delivered RBI singles, and the rest of the lineup kept grinding. Lennox Webb, Levi Elmore, and Carson Cosby all drew walks with the bases loaded, turning patient plate appearances into runs.
Webb also got the job done on the mound, throwing 5.2 innings of tough, two-run baseball while striking out six. Zane George came in to close it out, holding Patrick County scoreless over the final 1.1 innings. At the plate, Skidmore and Bradshaw were the catalysts, each going 2-for-3. Bradshaw and George both knocked in two runs, and Cosby led the team in walks with three. Altogether, the Cougars drew 11 walks in the game—an impressive display of patience and discipline.
On defense, Alleghany was perfect. No errors. No mistakes. Just clean, confident baseball. Skidmore anchored the defense with seven fielding chances, showing sharp instincts and a steady glove. Patrick County saw some bright spots from #15, who went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Anderson Briam, who also drove in a run. But the Cougars were simply too much to handle.
