CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) – The Spirit of the Appalachian Quilts is a wall of quilts at Lollies Quilt Shop created to honor two of their dedicated quilters who gave all to their community in so many ways. Becky Lane, who was the Senior Vice President of Curtis A Smith VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary at the time of her passing June 24, 2024, and Shirley Brookman. Shirley started the libraries group with a handful of people. Becky being of the beginners. It grew from about 4 to 20.
Becky joined the Auxiliary December 28, 2014, when her husband Floyd became Commander of the post. Becky was very dedicated to the veterans and headed up our gift baskets and visits to the local nursing homes on special holidays. She shopped and made sure each veteran got what they wanted and needed. The tradition continues today in her honor. Becky’s smiling face could be seen at every post pancake breakfast taking orders in the kitchen.
Jane Greenwood, owner of Lollies, said both Becky and Shirley had a passion for quilting and were both community oriented and made sure everyone felt included. A special thank you to Lollies Quilt Shop for honoring these two women in such a monumental way.
The VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary honors Becky Lane for all she did for the auxiliary. All of us who knew Becky saw the warm loving, giving side of her. The picture includes two long time members – Martha Terry and Phyllis Givens. Becky was not only an auxiliary member, she was a special friend to both women.
