Dear Editor,
This is an open letter to members of Clifton Forge Town Council.
Our community must prepare for the Coronavirus. If the worst happens, drastic measures will be required, such as setting up diagnostic and treatment centers, as well as providing necessities to those who cannot leave home. Implementing these measures will require great skill and leadership.
For Clifton Forge, now is not the right time to bring in a new town manager. No matter who is hired, it would take time for that person to learn the ropes, and in the middle of a crisis, there would be no time.
On the other hand, our current manager, Darlene Burcham, has the proven capability and strength to deal with this unfolding peril. She is one of the most qualified to lead a struggle which, unfortunately, may turn out to be a matter of life and death.
Therefore, please consider extending Ms. Burcham’s contract for one more year. By then, hopefully, we can all breathe a little easier, and council can move forward with its plan for a replacement.
Sincerely,
Henry Dickerson – Brussels Avenue, Clifton Forge
