COVINGTON, Va. (VR) -  The Covington VA250 Carnival wrapped up Saturday night with a boom — literally — as a spectacular fireworks display brought the three-day celebration to a close.
The event drew strong crowds throughout the weekend, with Saturday night attracting the largest attendance. Families and visitors filled the carnival grounds, enjoying rides, games, food vendors, and live entertainment. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, screams from thrill-seekers, and the aroma of classic carnival favorites.
The event was well received across the Alleghany Highlands, with many attendees suggesting it should become an annual tradition.
Saturday night's entertainment featured REO Survivor and Co., who delivered a high-energy performance at the amphitheater that kept music fans entertained throughout the evening.
The celebration concluded with a fireworks show that lasted nearly 20 minutes, lighting up the night sky and providing a memorable ending to the weekend festivities.
Covington Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Worley thanked the many volunteers, sponsors, organizations, and community members who helped make the event possible.
It had been a very long time since the Alleghany Highlands hosted an event of this size and scope. Fireworks Cap Successful VA250 Carnival Weekend

CLIFTON FORGE — A sold-out crowd filled the Historic Masonic Theatre on Sunday evening for the Virginia 250 Flag Day Patriotic Tribute, a special celebration marking America's upcoming 250th birthday.
The free concert featured the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro David Stewart Wiley, joined by special soloist Dr. E. Daryl Duff. 
One of the evening's most memorable moments came during the "Armed Forces Salute," when local veterans were invited to stand and be recognized as the musical tribute to their respective military branches was performed. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause as veterans throughout the theater were honored for their service.
The presentation was made possible through the support of the Alleghany Foundation, Historic Masonic Theatre, Town of Clifton Forge, Alleghany County, City of Covington, Mountain Gateway Community College Educational Foundation, Mountain Gateway Community College, Alleghany Highlands Arts Council, and the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.

3-11-25 Deputy Miller arrested Brandon Pleasant for taking indecent liberties with a minor.

3-11-25 Lt. Grimm served two protective orders.

3-11-25 Deputy Miller & Deputy Rexrode responded to River Rd for a motor vehicle accident.

3-12-25 Capt. Weaver & Deputy Altizer transported inmates from Alleghany Regional Jail to Bath County Circuit Court.

3-12-25 Deputy Plecker served two emergency protective orders.

3-12-25 Deputy O’Conner responded to Rocky Ridge for a report of a deer that had been hit by a vehicle.

3-12-25 Deputy McRoberts, Deputy O’Conner & VSP responded to Roseloe Ln for a domestic dispute.

3-12-25 Deputy McRoberts transported an inmate from Bath County Circuit Court to Alleghany Regional Jail.

3-12-25 Deputy Plecker assisted citizen with the magistrate.

3-12-25 Deputy D Smith responded to the thrift store on Rt. 42 for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot.

3-13-25 Lt. Grimm arrested Kendrick Ryan Smith on a capias. Transported to Alleghany Regional Jail.

3-13-25 Deputy Rexrode spoke with a citizen about a possible scam call.

3-13-25 Deputy Altizer & Deputy Rexrode conducted a traffic stop in Mitchelltown. Served a permitted arrest warrant on Peter Simms Adams for assault on a family member.

3-13-25 Deputy O’Conner responded to Mountain Valley Rd for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

3-13-25 Deputy Smith & Deputy Altizer responded to Bath Alum Dr for a report of a chair in the road causing a traffic hazard. Chair was removed from the roadway.

3-13-25 Deputy Smith responded to the Bacova warehouse for a report of a tractor trailer in the parking lot idling and no one around the truck. Owner was located.

3-13-25 Deputy Smith & Deputy O’Conner responded to the Williamsville area for a noise complaint.

3-14-25 Deputy Miller assisted a citizen with keys locked in their vehicle.

3-14-25 Deputy Miller & Deputy McRoberts responded to the Bath/Alleghany line for a deer that had been hit by a vehicle.

3-14-25 Deputy Miller conducted an investigation in the Ashwood area.

3-14-25 Deputy McRoberts assisted a citizen with keys locked in a vehicle in the Hot Springs area.

3-14-25 Lt. Grimm assisted Hot Springs Rescue Squad with a gentleman having a seizure on Bolars Draft Rd near the marina.

3-14-25 Deputy Bryan served a permitted arrest warrant for assault & battery on Synthia Adams.

3-14-25 Deputy Bryan, IV served an emergency protective order.

3-15-25 Deputy Miller assisted a citizen with keys locked in vehicle.

3-15-25 Capt. Weaver responded to Back Creek Mtn for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

3-15-25 Capt. Weaver spoke to a citizen about someone flying a drone above their property.

3-15-25 Deputy Miller assisted a citizen with keys locked in vehicle.

3-15-25 Deputy Bryan & Deputy Miller responded to the Hot Springs area for a report of littering.

3-15-25 Deputy Altizer & Deputy Colaw responded to the Williamsville area for a report of larceny at a work site.

Bath County Communications Officers answered 254 incoming calls and 79 outbound calls during this time period.
