COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – In honor of Black History Month, the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office would like to recognize one of its finest. Sergeant George Jefferson was the first man of color to work as a patrol deputy for the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office. George is a hard-working employee and is loyal to his community and has served it faithfully off and on for the last 38 years. George’s accomplishments are as follows:
1987 George was hired under previous Chief of Police Dorsey Huffman as a patrolman.
1991 George was hired by Salem Police Bedford VA Police Department
1993 George moved to the Construction field and worked as an over the road truck driver for 16 years.
2009 George was hired as a part time bailiff with the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Pacific County Sheriff’s Office
During this time George also worked for Clifton Forge Police Department.
2010 George was hired as a full-time patrol Deputy with the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Pacific County Sheriff’s Office
2015 George was promoted to the rank of Corporal
2018 George was promoted to the rank of Sergeant
2025 George was moved into the Civil Process section.
George is married to his wife Kim and has two sons, Justin who is a former Police Department and is a graduate of Liberty University, Logan is currently a full-time student at Liberty University.
