BATH COUNTY Va (VR)  – The Virginian Review originally reported that a school bus carrying students and staff was involved in an accident, on the way home from a field trip https://virginianreview.com/292468/.

The Virginian Review has received a Press Release from Bath County Public Schools regarding the incident.

A Bath County School bus was involved in an accident at approximately 7:50pm on Friday 2/28/25.  The bus was transporting students and chaperones from a Washington, DC field trip. The accident occurred near Shanandoah Caverns (MM 272) on I-81.  All the students, chaperones and the driver of the bus were safe.  Initial reports state that a car driven by an unknown driver crossed into the path of the bus striking it in the front driver side area.  The bus sustained substantial damage to the bumper, wheel, tire and hub on the driver’s side area. The driver of the Bath County bus was praised by officers for his ability to maintain control and get the bus and students safely off the interstate.  The driver has extensive experience as a school bus driver.

All of Bath County is appreciative of his experience to keep our kids safe.  We also appreciate the two drivers who drove a second bus to the scene to pick our students.  The students arrived in Bath County at approximately 1:45 am on Saturday 3/1/25.  Administrators, including the principal of Bath County Schools, the transportation director, school board members and the superintendent monitored the situation until all students were safely home.

The status of the driver of the car or the circumstances of what led to the car striking the bus are unknown to Bath County Schools at this time.  The incident is still under investigation.
