COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Snow continues to fall throughout the entire Alleghany County area.  Officers, Deputies and Troopers are responding to numerous calls for vehicle crashes, vehicles stuck in the ditch.

Conditions are hazardous and if you do not have to traveling, stay home and avoid risking the life of the EMS personnel that may have to respond to your situation.  If you travel, be prepared, have additional warm clothing, ice melt or some other substance that will aid in traction and always remove snow from the windshield, headlights and rear windows.

This snow is heavy and will require numerous snow removal personnel as well as equipment.  Please be patient and know that the snowplows are working vigorously to remove the snow.

Currently no power outages are being reported, but with this heavy snow and ice predicted this evening into the night, we will definitely experience this in parts of the county.

If you experience an emergency while driving you can contact the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office at 540-965-1770, Covington Police Department at 540-965-6444 and the Virginia State Police at #77.
