COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Alleghany’s girls track and field team secured the team title, stacking event wins across sprints, distance, relays, and field events in a balanced performance.
In the 100-meter dash, Ja’kara Heighter took first in 12.57. Teammates Taylor Jenkins placed third in 21.13, Zamya Hayslett was fourth in 22.19, and Willow Davis finished fifth in 22.93.
Heighter doubled back in the 200 meters, winning in 25.89, while Cambria Ransom took fourth in 27.38 and Leigh Byers finished fifth in 27.47.
In the 1600 meters, Kiera Lowman dominated with a 5:06.67 win. Faith Barron placed third in 5:46.75, and Maggie Hensley was fifth in 5:57.78.
Lowman added another win in the 800 meters at 2:21.77. Willow Morgan placed third in 2:32.56, Barron was fourth in 2:39.11, and Hensley finished fifth in 2:42.78.
In the 400 meters, Dani Halsey took third in 1:08.82.
The 300-meter hurdles produced a standout effort from Brooklyn Connor, who won in 53.61. Catie Lipes was second in 56.90, and Elin Heck finished third in 56.98 despite her shoe coming off mid-race. Zamya Hayslett placed fourth in 1:04.38, and Willow Davis was fifth in 1:06.31.
In the relays, Alleghany’s 4×100 team won in 51.71. The 3200 relay squads went 1–2, with Team A finishing first in 4:19.87 and Team B second in 4:46.75.
Field events added key points across the board. Jaylin Robinson was second in the triple jump at 30-07. Elin Heck cleared 4-11 for second in the high jump, while Morgan added fifth at 4-07. Heck also placed fourth in the long jump at 15-06.
In throws, Chloe Warlitner finished third in shot put (28-00) and third in discus (82-06). Autumn Dunbar was fifth in shot put at 23-11, while Solara Kern took fourth in discus at 77-02.
In pole vault, Heighter added a second-place finish at 7-00.
In the boys competition, Desmond Jordan led a dominant sprint and hurdle day, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 16.09 and returning to take the 100 meters in 11.71. Miles Christian pushed him to the line, finishing second in 11.72.
In the 200 meters, Maddox Wickline placed second in 22.89.
Kenton Kirby delivered a win in the 400 meters, crossing in 53.13. Jacob Simmons finished third in 1:01.90, and Michael Hardy was fourth in 1:04.30.
Evan Bishop added another victory in the 800 meters, winning in 2:02.84. Trevor Jonas placed fourth in 2:15.92.
In the 1600, Cole Bowser ran third in 5:01.24, with Levi Bartley close behind in fourth at 5:03.87.
Alleghany’s 4×100 relay finished third in 47.54, but the 4×400 relay closed strong with a win in 3:46.52.
Field events added major points. JeSean Riddick won the high jump at 6-0. In the pole vault, Kirby Brown finished second at 10-0, and Jacob Simmons placed fifth at 6-6.
Sarge Persinger added points in the throws, finishing fourth in discus at 105-0 and posting a shot put mark of 39-4.
