LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) — The Alleghany Highlands School Board has endorsed a calendar change that’s designed to make up for lost instructional time due to recent winter weather closures and delays.
Under the change, Monday, Feb. 17, is now an instructional day. The original school calendar designated that date as a non-student day for parent-teacher conferences in elementary schools, and professional development for Alleghany High School and Covington Middle School staff.
Parents who wish to request a parent-teacher conference are always welcome to do so by contacting their student’s school.
Further calendar considerations may be needed should school cancellations continue or student instructional needs dictate.
AHPS serves approximately 2,700 students. The school division is jointly funded by Alleghany County and the City of Covington. The school division was formed when Alleghany County Public Schools, Covington City Public Schools, and Jackson River Technical Center merged on July 1, 2022.
