MORGANTOWN – West Virginia last played on December 17th, 2024 where they lost 42-37 to Memphis in the Miami Beach Bowl.
Several weeks later, mass coaching changes were announced to their program.
One of the new hires includes Covington native Derek Dressler.
Dressler was hired by West Virginia as their new assistant offensive line coach.
For the last three years Dressler held the same position at Jacksonville State. With the Gamecocks Dressler helped guide the offensive line to push open running room for the running backs in 2023 and 2024 where JSG was the No. 3 FBS rushing offense.
In his first coaching stint, Dressler coached at Bryant University as their interior offensive line. Dressler also had a stop at Concord University where he graduated from in 2018 with a bachelor of science degree in recreation and tourism management. At Concord he was the offensive line coach, run game coordinator, and tight ends game coach.
Dressler, a high school graduate of Covington High School in 2014, was inducted into the CHS hall of fame along with his brother Tyler in 2022.
In 2025 Dressler will look to make an immediate impact coaching the offensive line for a Mountaineers team that was already a top-40 rushing team as they were ranked 27th overall in rushing in the FBS.
West Virginia allowed 27 sacks and were tied for 69th in the FBS last season.
The Mountaineers are led by Rich Rodriguez who was brought back in for his second stint with the program back on December 12, 2024.
