MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany and Covington Middle cross country teams wrapped up another strong weekend of competition Saturday at the VA Showcase held at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville. Alleghany senior Kiera Lowman led the way in the girls’ small school race, finishing 23rd overall with an impressive 5K time of 17:43. Faith Barron followed in 14th at 20:18, while Maggie Hensley placed 33rd in 21:23. In the boys’ small school division, Maddox Wickline placed 103rd at 18:41, and Maddox Hale crossed in 121st with a time of 18:49. Covington Middle also had several standout efforts in the 4K races. Emma Dean placed 30th in the girls’ division with a time of 16:52, while Ava Nicely finished 65th in 18:43. In boys’ competition, Graham Kenney ran 15:06 to finish 31st, followed by Noah Dean (46th, 15:24.40) and Lincoln Rosales (53rd, 15:33). The middle school season has now come to a close, while the Alleghany varsity squad will travel to Waynesboro on Wednesday for the District Championship.
