COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Covington City Council held a special meeting on Friday, Jan. 10 to elect a new mayor and vice mayor. The meeting was called to order by the city manager, who outlined the process for the mayoral and vice-mayoral votes. A motion was made by Councilman Forbes and seconded by Council Member Hunter to nominate William Carson as Covington’s new mayor. The council then unanimously agreed to elect the experienced Carson as the city’s new mayor.

Following the mayoral vote, a motion was made and shortly seconded to nominate Fred Forbes as the new vice mayor. The council also voted and once again unanimously approved Forbes for the position.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Mayor Carson expressed gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged the responsibility ahead. “I don’t know how well I’ll do, but I’ll do the best I can do,” said Carson. He pledged to pray before making decisions and assured citizens and city employees that he would do his best to serve them well.

After the new leadership was installed, the council voted to adjourn the meeting.

The election of Mayor Carson and Vice Mayor Forbes marks a new chapter for the City of Covington. The council expressed confidence that the new administration will provide strong leadership for the community going forward.
