ROANOKE – The Northside Invitational Tournament was held last Thursday and was for both the varsity and junior varsity boys basketball teams.
Alleghany finished as the runners-up to Liberty Christian Academy in the tournament final.
In the opening round held on Thursday the Cougars JV squad took care of business by defeating Auburn handedly 38-23.
Kenton Kirby paced the winners with nine points to lead the Cougars to the semifinals winners bracket.
The semifinals would provide a closer matchup for the JV Cougars who edged out a 41-38 overtime victory over Blacksburg.
Buddy Leisure-White led the way scoring a 14 points for Alleghany.
In the JV tournament championship it was LCA who held on to 40-36 win.
Luke Tomlin scored a game-high 18 points for the Bulldogs, while Buddy Leisure-White scored 12 for Alleghany. White averaged just over 11 points a game in the tournament.
Alleghany (5-2) hosted Stuart’s Draft on Monday as part of a JV/varsity doubleheader.
