STAUNTON – How do you bounce back from a tough loss from the night before?

You come back out even stronger.

That’s what Alleghany did on Wednesday, a day after losing to Buffalo Gap by 10 points in Low Moor, the Cougars blasted Staunton on the road for a second time this season by the final score of 41-26 in a non-district girls basketball showdown in Staunton.

Bryce Leitch erupted for 27 of the Alleghany 41 points and recorded a double-double as she reeled in a game-high 15 rebounds. Leitch scored 13 of the Cougars 18 points in first quarter, including four made three-pointers.

The Cougars quick first quarter start was all they needed to get past the Storm as the two teams from the second quarter on each scored 23 points.

Kelsey Nicely scored seven points for Alleghany and also brought down nine rebounds.

As a team AHS shot 9-for-10 as a team at the free throw line, including Ja’Kara Heighter who went a perfect 4-for-4.

Chasyn Smith led the way for Staunton with nine.

AHS defeated Staunton 48-24 the week before.

Alleghany (5-2) is off until December 30th when they go back on the road to against Stuart’s Draft. The SD Cougars handed the AHS Cougars their first loss of the season nearly two weeks ago in Low Moor.
