CLIFTON FORGE — The Clifton Forge Public Library invites the public to attend the program “More Natural Wonders of the Alleghany Highlands,” presented by Michael Hayslett.
It will be held Thursday, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the library’s Michael Armstrong Community Room.
“Our area is beloved by outdoor recreation and nature enthusiasts alike,” said Hayslett. “‘More Natural Wonders of the Alleghany Highlands’ will feature new material that emphasizes the beauty of our mountains in the western Highlands region of Virginia.”
A local field biologist, master naturalist, and educator, Hayslett’s program will focus on the fascinating natural features, flora, and fauna of the area.
Images, photography, and information will also include the region’s wildlife and geology.
After pursuing an advanced education, Hayslett’s 30-plus year career included working as a wildlife biologist, park ranger, wetlands consultant, and college instructor.
Upon returning to his hometown of Clifton Forge in 2014, he served as assistant professor of biology at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.
Hayslett remains actively involved in natural resources conservation, re-search, and the natural history of the area through volunteering with the Alleg-hany Highlands Master Naturalists, the Cowpasture River Preservation Association, and the Clifton Forge Parks and Trails Commit-tee; as well as part time employment through Douthat State Park, the U.S. Forest Service, and his private consulting firm, Virginia Vernal Pools, LLC.
He continues to explore the natural world and enjoys sharing that passion with others.
Following the program, Hayslett will encourage participation with questions, comments, and additional information or stories the audience may wish to share.
Light refreshments will be provided. Admission is free.
