NARROWS- The Bath County Chargers have surpassed all expectations so far this season. They’ve scored at least 40 points in every game they have played to this point; they have held all opponents to below fourteen points, and they’ve looked incredibly good doing it.
Some great teams you watch do so well because of one outstanding player hogging all the glory trying to look good, but these teams all end up failing at some point. The reason they fail is quite simple and it’s been repeated many times, “there is no I in the word team.” The Chargers have the talent to be one of those ill-fated teams, but they are too well coached and too smart to think that they can succeed alone. The Chargers of this 2024-2025 season play like some of the Charger teams that their coach played on. They are a family out there on the field and its visible every Friday evening. You see them helping each other up when they are down and telling each other it is okay if a mistake been made. In not so many words this Charger team can do remarkable things this season. They now have eight wins under their belt with no losses and must travel to Narrows to face a team that like them, has not lost in district play this season.
The Green Wave have enjoyed a lot of success this season and currently are sitting with a record of five wins and three losses.
Their three defeats have come from hard-fought games with teams like Holston and James Monroe (WV), both of which are large schools and currently sit near the top of their respective districts. In district play, they have looked very impressive winning each of those three games by at least two touchdowns. Their record is even more impressive when you consider that their area is still under repair after being plagued by the same catastrophic flooding that decimated parts of the Carolinas and Tennessee.
The last two battles between these two Pioneer District powerhouses was for the Pioneer District title. Unfortunately for the Chargers, Narrows came out on top in both of those contests, and therefore have been back-to-back district champions. For Bath County though, it only caused their hunger to grow larger and if the Chargers have their way the third time will be the charm.
