HARRISONBURG – The 2024 high school golf season came to a conclusion for Alleghany following a trip to the Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg last Tuesday at the Class 3, Region C tournament.
Western Albemarle claimed one of the state tournament berths after the Warriors took home the team regional championship following a day’s best 291. The other school to claim a state tournament spot was Liberty Christian Academy following their 319 score as a group. The Heritage Oaks Club will be the host to the state tournament.
The Cougars were set to feature three golfers at the tournament in Harrisonburg, including Jacob Morris, Kai Rowland, and Haden Spinks. However, Morris was injured and did not participate, leaving Rowland and Spinks as the only two AHS golfers at the regional tournament.
Spinks finished with an 84 for the regional tournament, while Rowland shot a 98. Both Spinks or Rowland came up short in qualifying for the individual state tournament.
The three individual golfers who qualified for the state tournament included Chase Snyder from Wilson Memorial who shot an individual best 69, while Jack Baugher from Spotswood and Andrew McCoy from Rockbridge County each shot a 73 to claim a spot.
