Jonathan Elmore, a student at Jeter-Watson Intermediate School, has won the Covington City School System division-wide Spelling Bee.
The bee was held Thursday morning at the Covington School Board office.
Thirteen classroom spelling champions from JWIS and Covington High School participated in the bee.
Jonathan won the bee in the 13th round by correctly spelling “omniscient”.
He will represent Covington city schools in the regional bee which will be held March 13 in Roanoke.
Judges for the bee were Carlene Gibson and Betty Munsey, while Mary Ellen Haines served as word caller.
Assisting the judges with providing definitions and sentence usage were Melinda Snead-Johnson and Darlene Lambert.
The coordinator for the division-wide bee was Ellen Nipper, while coordinators for the school bees were Leigh Ann Woodward, CHS, and Cindy Arthur, JWIS.
