Warm Springs, VA- The Bath County Chargers Varsity football team were optimistic coming into the season. After a great season, the year before where they finished with nine wins and only two losses, the first loss came from a hard-fought battle with Narrows and the other came in the playoffs against the State Champion Galax Maroon Tide. Even head coach Jake Phillips must be impressed at how well his Chargers have played in the first half of this season.
The Chargers have not been just winning games, they have been a virtual wrecking crew on the football field.
Led by their senior quarterback Wyatt “Superman” Campbell on offense. He’s racked up well over 100 yards in each of the first four games and has been able to virtually score at will. Bath has also been able to field an exceptionally talented defense that’s looked great so far and has multiple sacks and tackles for losses. The Chargers have looked absolutely phenomenal in each of their four games so far this season. They have been outscoring their opponents by incredible margins. As of now that number is 220 points to 18.
The Chargers are coming off two weeks of rest on Friday the eleventh After a rained-out game that was supposed to be against Roanoke Catholic and a scheduled bye week. They will be traveling to Bland County to face the Bears who are 1-3, before entering the toughest part of the season where their last four opponents are all district matchups.
The Chargers will be riding a wave of confidence into this second half of their season which should result in more great football being played on both sides of the ball and hopefully more wins.
