Spartan Invitational results; AHS boys place 6th

LEWISBURG, W.Va. – This past Saturday at the 2024 Spartan Invitational held in Lewisburg, W.Va., Winfield High School won the boys 5k, while the hosts Greenbrier East won in the girl’s field.
 
Winfield finished with five runners in the top 15, including the top overall boy’s runner, Trace Marshall, who ran an event best 16:22.50.
 
In a 10-team boys’ event that featured 93 total runners, Alleghany finished in sixth place with a total points score of 140. 
 
The Cougars boys team featured seven runners with Maddox Wickline leading the team with a top 20 finish as Wickline finished 18th overall with a time of 18:10.90. Meanwhile, Evan Bishop finished 25th overall with a time of 18:28.20.
 
The Alleghany girls’ team did not participate at the event. 
 
The Covington Middle School boys won the 3k Middle School championship as they scored 29 points in a field that featured six teams and 65 runners. 
 
Park Middle was second in the boys field with 82 points.
 
Summersville Middle won the girls event, scoring a 53 as they held off Covington Middle who scored 62.
 
Alleghany High School and Covington Middle boys and girls will compete next at the Virginia XC Showcase at the Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville on Saturday, October 19th.
