Meadow Bridge, WVa- The Bath County Chargers have looked nothing short of impressive on both sides of the ball so far this season. The dual threat run game of Quarterback Wyatt Campbell and Running back Ethan Bryant has kept defenses on their heels not sure which direction the ball is going to go.

Then, just as the defenses think they are going to get a stop, Phillips dials up a pass play and Campbell unleashes a 15 to 20-yard pass into the arms of his sure handed receivers Luke Turner and Cooper Lowry. On the other side of the ball, Bath’s defense has been just as incredible stopping offenses in their tracks. Through the first three games of the season Bath outscored their opponents 152-6, an accomplishment barely imaginable.

The Wildcats, as well, found success over their first few games of the season anchored by the running skills of their star running back Kaiden Sims. The Wildcats managed a 3-0 start for the first time in years. Unfortunately, because of the Chargers, they would not make it to four.

Bath kicked the ball off to start the game and it looked like Bath was going to have their hands full as Sims broke free and got a first down just as Meadow Bridge was looking at second-and-30 because of a bad snap on the previous play, but the Bath defense held tough and forced a punt and the Chargers took over.

The shock only continued for Bath as they were looking at a third-and-12 when a fumble recovered by the Wildcats gave Meadow Bridge great field position. Two plays later, Sims found the endzone putting them up 6-0 over the temporarily stunned Chargers.

It didn’t last long though, as seeing themselves down for the first time all season, must have been the much-needed wakeup call needed to shake off the Kryptonite because “Superman” Wyatt Campbell went on a running spree gaining 12 and then 11 yards before breaking free for a 29-yard touchdown putting the Chargers up by one after the extra point. Bath would have no mercy after that kicking and returning an onside kick and giving themselves decent field position and possession of the ball. Two plays later, Ethan Bryant decided he wanted in on the fun and broke free for a 48-yard touchdown making it 14-6 bath County.

Buddha Mabe got ahold of the ball and kicked deep to Meadow Bridge where they fumbled the football and Bath recovered. Campbell really found his zone on this possession finding Luke Turner for a couple of nice passing gains before finding the endzone four plays later. The score at the end of the first quarter was 21-6, all Bath County.

Bath’s defense would force a turnover on downs before taking the ball over and letting Luke Turner break free for a 30-yard run and another first down. Wyatt Campbell, two plays later, would call his own number and he found the endzone on a 19-yard run and making it a 28-6 Bath County lead.

Braiden Mabe would pin the Wildcats deep after a huge kickoff had Meadow Bridge starting on the 20-yard line. On the very next play, Sims would find a soft spot in the Charger defense and run it 80 yards to the house for a Wildcat touchdown. After the failed two-point conversion the score was 28-12, Bath County.

On the first play following Meadow Bridge’s kickoff, Superman Campbell–doing what he does best–took it to the house for about 60 yards and a touchdown giving his team a 23-point lead.

The Wildcats were still playing tough trying to mount a comeback and ran the kickoff out to around midfield. Feeling the pressure of halftime looming, Sims broke free for a nice 36-yard gain setting the Wildcats up for the possibility of putting six on the board before halftime. Bath County’s Owen Perdue and Buddha Mabe would not let that happen though as they brought Sims down behind the line of scrimmage on repeated plays and sacked the quarterback on fourth-and-eleven turning the ball over to the Chargers on downs.

Bath wasted no time on offense squeaking in one more touchdown before halftime with Campbell finding Luke Turner in the endzone for a 23-yard touchdown, and a score of 41-12 going into the half.

The second half went a lot like the first with the Chargers in complete control and they ended up winning the game against the Meadow Bridge Wildcats 68-12.

Be sure to come out and cheer your undefeated Bath County Chargers on this Friday night as they face off against 2-2 Roanoke Catholic High School.

The game begins at 7:00PM
