Viola Martin Fisher, 84, of 23389 Botetourt Rd., Iron Gate, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at her residence.

She was born in Franklin County, a daughter of the late John Pete and Julia Gillespie Martin.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband French Junior Fisher and two sisters, Hannah Kelley and Emma Cannaday.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Louise Fisher of Iron Gate and Dorothy “Dot” Taylor and husband, John, of Salem; two sons, Paul Lynn Fisher and wife, Marcia, of Eagle Rock and Dale French Fisher and wife, Gabrielle, of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Cassie Carr of Roanoke; a brother, Leroy Martin of Hollywood, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her friends and caregivers at Medi Home Health and Hospice.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Charlie Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society-Alleghany Highlands Division, in care of Karen Buzzard, 807 McCormick Blvd., Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
