CHARLOTTESVILLE – Ardella Crowder Brackens, 78, of Charlottesville passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 at home surrounded by her family.
Born May 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Crowder and Lola Martin Crowder.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Crowder.
Ardella was a graduate of Covington High School.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and loved knitting, sewing, bird watching, playing the piano, and bragging about her grandchildren.
Surviving her are her husband, James W. Brackens, of Charlottesville; a son, James W. Brackens, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Chapel Hill, NC; a daughter, Kathy Jay and her husband, Woody, of Greenwich, CT; five grandchildren; and a sister, Aleise Watts of Wilmington, DE.
A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 14 with the Rev. Al Horton officiating.
Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 13 in the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Way, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
