There was a heavy police presence in the vicinity of the Main Street Baptist Church, Clifton Forge over the Labor Day Weekend. The incident did not involve the Church but occurred at the corners of A and Main Streets, with the Church in the middle, and involved police activity from
the Town of Clifton Forge, the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, and the Virginia State Police.
On the evening and into the night of Sept. 1, several young men were detained in the vicinity of MSBC, while a K-9 team searched the perimeters of A and Main Streets. It is believed that a firearm was involved. However, the Virginian Review reached out to the CFPD for further information, but the messages had not been returned at the time of this publication.
The Virginian Review reached out to the Rev. Dr. Ronald O. Baker, pastor, MSBC. He was out of town and unaware of the incident. Rodney Brown, MSBC Trustee, advised that he “was called to the scene since it was so close to the church.” Brown reports that the church was not affected or involved in any way.
The Virginian Review will be following this story and will update the public as any new information becomes available.
