Warm Springs, Va- Fans came from every corner of Bath Friday night to cheer on their Chargers as they took the field in a contest for football glory against the Generals of Mountain View High school. The time for practice was over and the stage was set. All that was left was to snap the chinstraps and take the field.

The Chargers got off to a great start when Mountain View kicked it deep on the opening kickoff. Superman himself, “Wyatt Campbell,” took it back all the way back to the house for a Bath County touchdown. The Chargers kicked the extra point allowing Bath to go up 7-0 before the first minute ran off the clock.

The Generals tried to get something going on their first couple of drives, but the Chargers defense came to play and did great shutting down the run. Mountain View found some success throwing in the first quarter completing a couple of passes, but never finding the endzone. The first quarter was all Bath and ended with Bath up by seven.

The Chargers were plagued by a couple of penalties in the second quarter as two touchdowns were called back on the same drive. The first for an illegal shift and the second for holding. In the end bath got the upper hand when Wyatt Campbell ran the ball into the endzone from about ten yards out. Which added to the chargers lead as the score was 14-0.

The Generals continued in their efforts to get something going on offense but continually came up short. They had some good offensive possessions and at times passed the ball decently, but the Chargers defense wouldn’t budge. Before the end of the half, Bath would put up three more touchdowns. The first came after some strong running from Ethan Bryant as he took the ball down to within striking range. Afterwards, Luke Turner ran it 20 yards to the house and made it 21-0, all Bath County.

After a General’s turnover on downs, AJ Woodson ran the ball up the middle and into the endzone making it 28-0. Mountain View, in an effort to put some first half points on the board, tried taking to the air, but on a bad snap #62 Tyler Shaver recovered a fumble and gave the Chargers excellent field position with 2:40 left on the clock. Bath didn’t hesitate and gave the ball to Ethan Bryant who ran it in from 12 yards out for the final score of the half making it 34-0 all Bath.

The second half was more of a dogfight with both defenses doing a good bit of the heavy lifting, but The Chargers were able to add one more to the board as Luke Turner ran for almost 20 yards and scored Bath’s only second half points. The Mountain view Generals added points to their side of the scoreboard in the fourth quarter as their quarterback Patel completed a long pass for a touchdown making it the final score of 41 for Bath County and 7 for the Mountain View Generals.

Follow the Virginian Review for all the details as the now 1-0 Chargers prepare to travel to Page County to battle the Panthers next Friday September the 6th at 7:00PM.
