COVINGTON – Jorge A. Garcia III, the ace of the bullpen for Covington was named the 2024 Valley Baseball Leagues South Division pitcher of the year.
Garcia was one of five Lumberjacks who made the VBL All-Star team for the South Division. Now he’s recognized as the division’s top pitcher after a remarkable season out of the bullpen for the Jacks’.
The right-handed pitcher out of Atlantis University in Miami, FL, made 12 appearances out of the bullpen for Covington this summer where he posted a sensational 1.28 ERA. Garcia went 3-1, while recording four saves. The Miami Springs native struck out 24 batters in 21 innings pitched in. His opponents batting average was an bleak .158
In one of his best performances of the season, during a 6-5 victory over Waynesboro, Garcia logged the most innings he tossed out of the bullpen. The righty earned the win after tossing four shutout innings, while also striking out a season high six batters. He did not allow a hit and just one base runner on a walk.
In his last appearance for the Lumberjacks, Garcia earned the win after allowing one run on one hit in three innings out of the bullpen in a 5-4 victory over Harrisonburg on July 22nd.
Garcia was also one four Jacks’ who made the All-VBL South Division team.
