Theodore Payne Bowen, 72, of 321 E. Pennsylvania St, died, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at the Brian Center in Low Moor.
He was born at Blue Spring Run in Alleghany County, a son of the late Paul Payne Bowen and Violet Bush Bowen Davis.
Mr. Bowen retired in 1999 from Westvaco as a quality control coordinator after 40 years of employment. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was an elder of the church and also was the chairman of Missions and Outreach Program.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Arthur, and his stepfather, Russell Davis.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Smith Bowen of Covington; two daughters, Carla Davis and her husband, Richard, of Clifton Forge and Jennifer Tingler and her husband, Kevin, of Covington; one son, Tommy Bowen and his wife, Kim, of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Kaylie Bowen, Madison Bowen, Ridge Bowen, Ethan Davis, Kevin Tingler, Jr. and Kimberly Tingler; one great grandson, Hayden Martin; one brother, Ryland Bowen of Roanoke and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Entombment will follow in the Alleghany Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Bowen, Doug Bowen, David Bowen, Dana Hu-mphreys, Noel Beech, Wally Winebriner, Ryland Brisendine and Toy Higgins. Alternates will be Johnny Humphries, Cody Taylor, Benny Tingler, George Noel, Mark Arthur, Al Mildenberger and Jon Fitzgerald.
Friends may pay their respects at any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at First Christian Church.
The family suggests that memorial tributes to Mr. Bowen take the form of contributions to Faith and Promise at First Christian Church, 231 E. Fudge St., Covington, Va. 24426.
