CHRISTIANSBURG (AP) – A court hearing has been scheduled for a former Virginia Tech student accused of killing another student in a campus eatery, and the man is expected to enter a plea in the case.
Haiyang Zhu (hy-yuhng-joo) is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Xin Yang (shin yuhng), who was attacked and decapitated as the pair had coffee together last January. A jury trial had been set for Feb. 1 in Montgomery County Circuit Court.
This week, a Dec. 21 hearing was scheduled. Zhu’s court file includes documents from prosecutors that ask that Zhu be added to the day’s docket for a plea.
The trial remains on the schedule, which is common practice in case the first hearing doesn’t proceed as planned.
