Louvenia Fairburn “Venia” Persinger, 96, died Thursday morning, Nov. 5, 2009 in the Brian Center Nursing Home in Low Moor.
Mrs. Persinger was born April 13, 1913 at Glen Wilton in Botetourt County, a daughter of the late Walter and Rosa Kidd Fairburn.
She was a resident of the Mallow community for many years and was an employee of the former Industrial Rayon Corp. plant in Covington. She had retired from the former Jane Colby Inc. sewing plant in Clifton Forge in 1979 after 13 years with the company. She was a longtime member of Mallow Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Persinger; one brother, Lee Roy Fairburn; three sisters, Mary Brackenridge, Margie Jones and Helen Smith; a granddaughter, Melissa Persinger and also by several nieces and nephews.
Venia is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Jasper and Alice Persinger, George and Shirley Persinger and Melvin and Kitten Persinger, all of Covington, and Frank and Betty Persinger of Clifton Forge; one brother, Robert Fairburn of Covington; 11 grandchildren, Peggy Macayski and her husband Pete of Culpeper, Gary Persinger and his wife, Carol of Austin, Texas, Susan Persinger of Covington, Lisa Doss and her husband Richard of Vinton, Deborah Garner and her husband Carl of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Joyce Rose and her husband, Barry of Clifton Forge, Frank Persinger Jr. and his wife Mary of Clifton Forge, Melvin R. Persinger and his wife Tracy of Covington, Michael Persinger and his wife Tammy of Buena Vista, Mark Persinger and his wife Traci of Eagle Rock and Michelle Caruthers and her husband Richard of Covington.
Also surviving are 24 great-grandchildren, David and Holly Stayton, Caroline and Dennis Plank, Haley Persinger, Emily Persinger, David McComb, William Doss, Zachary Doss, Sarah Doss, Matthew and Fran Garner, Hayden Garner, Avery Garner, Dawson Garner, Virginia and Brian Smith, Heather and Stanley Brooks, Ashley Persinger, Elise Persinger, Kendall Persinger, Dylan Persinger, Cristy Persinger, Corey Persinger, Chloe Persinger, Cameron Persinger, Alex Caruthers and Claudia Caruthers; two step-great-grandchildren, Stacey Rose and Jonathan Rose; four great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Stayton, Brian Smith II, Collin Smith and Paisley Brooks; brother-in-law Thurman Brackenridge; sister-in-law Lilly Jamison and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating.
Interment will be in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Friends may pay their respects at anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends Saturday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
The family suggests that donations in Mrs. Persinger’s name be made to Mallow Presbyterian Church.
