WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) – The Greenbrier’s new owner says he has fired three top executives because the storied southern West Virginia resort wasn’t making enough progress toward regaining five-star status.
Jim Justice says he ousted President Michael Gordon, General Manager Monte Hansen and Human Resources Director Bruce Rosenberger based on a consulting report. Justice hired the Forbes Travel Guide, which doles out star ratings, to help determine what the resort must do to get back the fifth star it lost in 2000.
Gordon, Hansen and Rosenberger were let go Dec. 11. They were hired by The Greenbrier’s previous owner, Jacksonville, Fla.-based CSX Corp. Justice, who owns coal and agriculture interests, bought the resort out of bankruptcy for $21 million in May.
