Sidewalks in the Jackson Street area of Covington are in serious need of repair.
During a very short Covington City Council work session Tuesday evening, concerns about the state of the sidewalks along Jackson Street were discussed.
Harry Stinespring, a resident of Jackson Street, said that the sidewalks have been damaged to the point where water pools on them making a hazard and a nuisance to those living in the area.
“You know, we can build new schools, and we can build a new city hall, and we can build a new library, which are all great, but now it’s time to help fix this problem,” Stinespring said.
City Manager John Doane said he would work with Covington Public Works to come up with a feasable plan that will alleviate the issue.
In other action, council members placed the following items on the agenda for next week’s regular meeting:
• Discussion regarding a law enforcement mutual aid agreement.
• Consideration of a request for additional state funding for the city sewage system.
• Second readings of ordinances changing the speed limit on the Route 220 (Alleghany Avenue) corridor, abandonment of streets and alleys, weeds and grass, derelict buildings and tax exemptions for demolished or renovated buildings.
• Consider a resolution accepting the conveyance of property from the Covington School Board.
• Consider a resolution regarding the Child Nutrition Program in the amount of $357,178.
