CHARLOTTESVILLE – The losing streak for Covington reached five in a row following an 11-2 Valley Baseball League loss to Charlottesville this past Tuesday night at Charlottesville High School. The 11 runs scored marked for the fourth time during their five-game losing streak that the Jacks’ have allowed at least 10 runs.

The TomSox who are arguably the VBL’s top team thus far controlled the pace of the baseball game on Tuesday by scoring seven runs through the first two innings as the team took a commanding 7-1 lead.

Tommy Roldan (3-for-5) and Ryan Wynn (3-for-4) led Charlottesville at the plate with each having a three-hit performance. Roldan led the way with five RBI’s, including an eighth inning three-run home run that had put the game away for good at 11-2.

It was a rough night on the mound for Luke Wilkerson (L/0-3) who could not catch a break. Wilkerson suffered his third loss on the mound for Covington this season. The right-handed pitcher out of Eastern Kentucky only lasted one inning where he threw 30 pitches and allowed four runs on only one hit, while walking and hitting a pair of batters. The first run Wilkerson gave up resulted in a fielder’s choice before he plunked one home, walked in another, and a fielder’s choice on the fourth run scored.

Kaleb Henry (1-for-4) was a bright side to the Lumberjacks offense. Henry made the most out of his only hit in four trips to the plate as he connected on his first home run of the season. It was only the second extra-base hit on the year for the junior out of Georgia Southwestern St. University.

Spencer Williams (0-for-3) drove in the other lone run scored for the Jacks’ which came during the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly out. The Lumberjacks finished with six total hits in the loss on Tuesday. Jackson Toberman (2-for-4) led the way with two hits in four at bats.

Chase Stryker (W/2-0) earned the win for the TomSox after allowing just one run on three hits in three innings out of the bullpen in relief of starter Hutson Trobaugh.

Covington is now 0-3 against Charlottesville this season and will play them five more times, including this Wednesday night at Casey Field at 7:00 p.m.

Covington 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 – 2 6 1
Charlottesville 4 3 0 0 0 0 1 3 x – 11 10 3
W – Chase Stryker. L – Luke Wilkerson.
