With the recent storm damage to the “V” in the iconic LOVEwork sign at Humpback Bridge, paired with years of natural erosion and high amounts of overall use at the wayside park, the Chamber is taking the lead on raising money to help support improvements at Humpback Bridge.

The process has already been started to recreate the LOVEwork sign, so that it can continue to be viewed by the thousands of tourists and local residents that visit the wayside park each year. In addition to the LOVEwork sign, there is also a need to take the improvements a step further by making additional updates to the overall site. “Humpback Bridge is one of the most visited icons we have in the Alleghany Highlands due to its historic relevance, natural beauty, and that it is home to one of the most unique LOVEwork signs in Virginia. We hope the local community and friends of the Alleghany Highlands will help us in our efforts to ensure Humpback Bridge is a place people of all ages can visit and enjoy for years to come,” said Chamber Executive Director, Teresa Hammond.

A fundraising page has been created through Gofundme and can be found by visiting ahchamber.com/lovehumpback or on the Chamber’s Facebook page. The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism is a 501(c)(3) Non-profit. All donations are tax-deductible and will go directly towards improvements at Humpback Bridge. “We hope you will help us keep Humpback Bridge, Uniquely Alleghany,” said Hammond.

For any additional questions, please reach out to the Chamber by phone at 540-962-2178 or by email at info@ahchamber.com

In the home of Clay of Billee Nicely, Heath's parents have built him a wall of honor which is the first thing one sees when entering. During his interview, Clay stated that Heath would always say "I love you," whenever he walked out the door. It is a sentiment the Nicely's have undoubtedly continued, whispering the same words to Heath's photo as they leave home. (Jennifer Bailey Photo)
