The Shadow: Misplaced bodies

The Shadow believes most anyone would say that death is the most difficult part of life. You get so used to visiting your loved one, calling them on the phone, attending social gatherings with them that you forget to consider the day will eventually come when one will have to leave the other. When it finally does happen, you are not prepared for it, as one never is.

Imagine then (after they are gone, had their funeral, and been laid to rest) visiting their final resting place for years. You buy flowers for their birthday to place on their grave, flowers for Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, and Thanksgiving… You go to their grave and tell them what is happening in your life, places you’ve seen, and those who come and go from your life. Imagine doing this for decades…

Then the day comes when you learn the very grave you have been visiting for decades does not at all belong to your loved one. It belongs to someone else. Not because of your own bad memory or some misdirection by family members who simply led you to the wrong place, or a non-existing headstone to mark the grave, but because the cemetery had been misplacing bodies for years.

The Shadow believes it sounds more like a ghost story than a true event happening right in our backyard. However, with alleged proof in one reader’s hands, perhaps this is one story that will eventually come to light in the future.

The Shadow recommends doing your research thoroughly before committing your loved one to a cemetery in Alleghany County. You never know where they might end up or if you’ll ever find them again.
