LAUREL FORK – It took an extra couple of days, but history was made this past Thursday where the Alleghany High School Fall sports season kicked off.
After seeing their season opener on Monday get rained out, the Alleghany Cougars had their first ever sporting event take place in the school’s history which occurred on the green.
At the Olde Mill Golf Resort in Locust Grove in Laurel Fork, Alleghany placed 7th in a seven-team Three Rivers District golf match which also featured new TRD member Patrick County.
In the school’s first ever golf match, the Cougars as a team shot 380 on the green. The team was led by Landon Arritt who shot a 92.
The Floyd County Buffaloes took home the first district golf match victory with a 327.
The course, a par 72 saw the two co-medalists; Trace Reavis (Carroll County) and Landon Boiling (James River) finished just 4-over with a 76.
Alleghany was back on the green on Monday when they participated in a TRD match in Radford at The Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech.
