COVINGTON – Following the cancellation of their away baseball game with the Charlottesville TomSox on Wednesday, July 19th, the Covington Lumberjacks (18-18) returned to the diamond on Thursday and dropped their fourth in a row following a 7-6 home loss to the Front Royal Cardinals.

Trailing by two runs entering the top of the ninth inning, Front Royal pushed across three runs in the inning to take a 7-6 lead. After the Cardinals tied the game on a Covington fielding error, Jaden Anderson with two outs put the Cardinals in front with an RBI double.

Covington had a chance to tie the game. The team grabbed a pair of singles in the bottom of the ninth inning. With runners on first and second, Michael Pavelchak grounded out to end the game.

In just their second game, Hector Candelas and Jonathan Vasallo led the Lumberjacks with two hits each. Vassallo and Gabriel Mirands led the team with two RBI’s. Miranda helped give the Jacks a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning after he belted a two-run home run.

Zaylen Perry out of the bullpen took the loss for Covington. Perry in his lone inning on the mound allowed three runs on four hits.
