COVINGTON – The Covington Lumberjacks (18-19) fell below .500 for the first time in over a month following an 18-7 eight-inning blow out home loss at Casey Field to the Winchester Royals on Friday, July 20th.
Winchester seemingly had control of the entire game even though they had fallen behind 5-3 after scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
Despite falling behind by two runs, the Royals would go on to outscore the Lumberjacks 15-4 from innings 4-8, including a pair of four-run innings.
Chandelier Ballenger led the way with a four-hit day at the plate for Winchester who racked up 15 hits as a team. Ballenger, who’s hometown is Boyce, Va., also had three RBI’s. Meanwhile David Stokely led the way with four RBI’s including a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning which put the Royals back in front at 7-5
Christopher Avarez and Ronny Medina led Covington with two hits, while Medina led the team with two RBI’s. In his debut on the mound Kevin Rodriguez suffered the loss after giving up seven runs (three earned) in four innings.
