COVINGTON – The struggles seem so long ago for the Covington Lumberjacks who previously dropped four games in a row and are now surging once again as they picked up their third straight win on Wednesday, July 12th following a 10-5 victory over the Staunton Braves.

Chaner Brown, Christopher Watson, and Gregory Miranda each had RBIs in the bottom of the first inning as Covington jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.

Down 4-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning Staunton pushed across three runs to cut the lead down to a run. Brady Maciak had the big hit in the inning as he ripped a two-run double for the Braves.

Just as Staunton worked its way back into the game, Covington came right back in the bottom of the sixth inning with four runs to take an 8-3 lead. Anthony Castillo provided the big two-run double for the Lumberjacks as the team reclaimed momentum.

Covington would add two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 10-3 lead.

Watson and Michael Pavelchak led the Lumberjacks with two hits each, while Castillo led the team with two RBI’s.

On the mound, Jorge A. Garcia did enough to earn his first win of the season. Garcia allowed three runs on five hits in 5.2 innings, while walking four, and striking out five. Meanwhile, Edinson Renteria Jr., made his pitching debut and picked up the save. Renteria Jr. faced just one batter in the top of the ninth inning. With the bases loaded Renteria Jr got Noah Canterbury of Staunton, Va. to groundout to end the game.

Maciak and Nate Earley led the Braves with a pair of RBIs each.
