MILLBORO — The Douthat State Park Environmental Education (SPEED) group announced this week that it is postponing its fifth annual Campsite Cook Off until next spring.
The event, which was scheduled to be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at Whispering Pines Campground, will now be held Saturday, March 20, at White Oak Campground.
Ray Keen, president of the SPEED group, said that the the group reached its decision based on “the current COVID-19 and state restriction [and] with keeping public health and safety as a top priority.”
Keen said that the SPEED group will be contacting registered contestants soon about registration fees and picking campsites at the new venue location.
Keen also noted that the sixth annual event, set for Oct. 9, 2021, will go on as scheduled.
“We will have two Campsite Cook Off events for the 2021 year,” he said.
