About a month ago, Wyatt Griffith concluded his Alleghany High School baseball career in the state semifinals.

Unfortunately, the career ended with a loss, but Griffith’s future is very much a win, as he signed with Patrick Henry College in Purcellville a couple of months ago.

The first baseman recently answered some questions about his future school and what he hopes to achieve at the next level.

VR: What was it about Patrick Henry College that made it your choice?

WG: When going through the recruiting process, I had a lot on my mind. I was looking for a home away from home, but a wanted a gateway for another opportunity. I feel like with the transfer ability and coaching staff, P&H was the perfect choice for me to go to college.

VR: What are your goals once you arrive and get started, and do you have plans to get to a bigger school eventually?

WG: I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to get into yet. I’ve looked into the PTA program down there and I’ve also looked at going the general studies route and transferring out after. I’d love to end up transferring out and fulfilling my dreams of playing D-1 baseball.

VR: What have the Patrick Henry coaches told you about your role on the team, and will you still play first base?

WG: When I spoke with Coach Brandon Nania, we made small talk about ball and then I finally started cracking the hard questions. Just like every young, excited baseball player, you would love to know where or how you will help out your future program. He told me, “I promise nobody any at bats, innings pitched, or bases ran. You show up and show me why your name should be in the lineup.” The coaches liked the power I possessed and will keep me on first base for the majority of the time. Just like life, you never know where you may end up once you arrive.

VR: How do you plan to balance schoolwork and baseball at the college level?

WG: When it comes to the balance of school and baseball, it’s going to take a little getting used to. I’ve been taught by coaches, cousins (who competed at d1 level), and other family members who have helped me out with this step. My main goal when I’m there is to get things done efficiently. No matter if it is baseball, or schoolwork, get it done effectively and efficiently.
