PEARISBURG, VA – The Giles Spartans could not be stopped this past Thursday as they blew past the Covington Cougars following a 10-0 victory in the first-round of the Class 1, Region C boys soccer tournament.
The duo of Cam Hansen and Will Tickle combined for four goals for Giles in their regional shutout victory over Covington. Both Hansen and Tickle had two goals each.
GIles finished the game with eight players scoring goals.
After dropping seven of their first eight games, the Cougars ended the season winning three of their last five games, including a third place finish in the Pioneer District tournament following a 5-1 victory over Narrows.
Junior defensive standout, Dylan Pommert, led Covington with an eight steal performance against Giles. Pommert finished the season with 172 steals. Jesus Reyes led the Cougars with two shot opportunities. Despite giving up 10 goals, goalkeeper Ben Moss had an 11-save game against the Spartans.
Covington finished its season with an overall record of 6-11.
