BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (VR) – While many students are enjoying a slower summer schedule, Alleghany High School Junior Gabi Woodson has been putting in early mornings caring for her chickens and preparing them for competition.

Woodson spent the weekend at the Botetourt County Fair, where her hard work paid off with multiple top finishes in the poultry show.

She earned first place in Clean Leg Bantam with her Japanese Bantam, Feather Leg Bantam with her Bantam Cochin, English Division with her Jubilee Orpington, Mediterranean Division with her White Leghorn, American Division with her Buff Chantecler, and Asiatic Division with her Standard Cochin.

She also finished second in the Feather Leg Bantam category with her Satin Silkie and second in the Mediterranean Division with her Exchequer Leghorn.

In addition to her breed awards, Woodson claimed first place in Senior Showmanship, recognizing her knowledge, handling skills, and presentation in the show ring.

Woodson’s show season is not over. She will next compete at the Rockbridge County Fair, where she will look to add to her list of awards in several poultry divisions.
