COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – It was an offensive attack Thursday night at the Jackson River Sports Complex as the Covington Lady Cougars (6-3/3-0) exploded for 22 runs in their Pioneer District victory over the Narrows Lady Green Waves.

The Lady Cougars had a total of 11 hits in the win and also drew a season-high 17 walks. Addison Morris (1-for-4) and Laken Cantrell (1-for-2) led the offense with four RBIs each. Meanwhile, Gabby Marshall (2-for-2), Lexi Dressler (2-for-3) and Tyra Rose (2-for-3) each had a pair of RBIs.

On the mound, Kayla Bartley (W/2-for-2) picked up the win as she was perfect in the one inning she pitched in while striking out a pair, as well. Serenity Campbell (0-for-1) came in relief of Bartley in the second inning while holding a 10-run lead and pitched four innings, where she allowed one run on two hits while walking two and struck out six.

Sierra Lang (2-for-3) provided the Lady Green Waves’ only hits of the game. Gracie Spicer (L/0-for-2) suffered the loss after giving up 12 runs (nine earned) on six hits, while walking nine in two innings. Braylee Robertson (0-for-2), who came in relief of Spicer, also pitched two innings where she gave up 10 runs (five earned) on five hits and walked eight.

The Lady Cougars are rolling as of late with now having won six of their last seven games. They’ll look to continue with their winning ways on Monday when they travel to Swoope to take on the Buffalo Gap Lady Bison.
